ExtraCurricrriclar Activities

JESS Secondary School supports the Philosophy that education goes beyond the limitations of the classroom. Consequently, there is a varied and exciting range of extracurricular activities. We will continue to look for ways to enhance the programme by opening up off-site opportunities that take advantage of the excellent facilities and high level of expertise that exists within Dubai.

Medical Information

The Role of the School Nurse is:

  • Health promotion within the school environment;
  • First aid and emergency care;
  • Collaboration with parents, staff and health care professionals regarding specific health concerns;
  • Coordination and provision of school medical examinations;
  • Maintenance of school health record.

Parents are requested to keep their children at home when they are ill. Please inform the school nurse when your child is unable to attend. To minimise the risk of infection, student who have infectious diseases are excluded from school (e.g. impetigo, Conjunctivitis, Chicken pox, ringworm). If your child becomes ill during school hours, you will be contacted and asked to collect your child as promptly as you can i.e. within one hour. It is important that parents collect sick children from the medical room in person, in case the nurse needs to speak to you. Parents should notify the nurse if someone else is to collect the child, or if there is a delay.

Absence

If a student is absent due to illness, please notify the School Nurse between 8.00am and 9.00am, by calling them on medical room’s direct line 4224618. You may wish to discuss the absence further with the school nurse; for example, if your child has suffered an asthma attack or has a contagious ailment. Students are also asked to bring in absence notes when they return to school so that records can be maintained, or parents may complete the relevant section in the student planner.

General Concerns

If a member of staff is concerned about a student either academically or pastorally, the form tutor or head of year will contact the parents by telephone to arrange an appointment. Likewise, if parents have any concerns or need to pass on information, they should contact the form tutor in the first instance, or Head of Year via School Reception to arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss their concern.
